Aviation themed 2013 Red Tails Mustang to be auctioned at EAA AirVenture

Ford Motor Company builds on their tradition with another aviation themed Mustang and this time they are honoring the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen with a one-of-a-kind 2013 Red Tails Mustang.  The one-off Red Tails Mustang will be auctioned off Thursday, July 26 to benefit the EAA Young Eagles program at the EAA AirVenture annual aviation celebration in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.  This marks the fifth straight year Ford and EAA AirVenture have teamed up to raise money for the Young Eagles program.

The Red Tails Mustang is modeled after the P-51 Mustangs flown by the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African-American aviators in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.  The Red Tails Mustang features a polished aluminum and silver chrome finish with red and yellow accents. … Continue Reading

Vaughn Gittin Jr. takes First Place at Formula Drift’s Round 4: The Gauntlet

The champagne was flowing this past weekend at Wall Speedway as Vaughn Gittin Jr. took home first place for Formula Drift’s Round 4: The Gauntlet.  The sold out crowd at Wall Speedway watched in awe as Vaughn powered his Monster Energy/Falken Tire Ford Mustang to victory while besting top drifters Daijiro Yoshihara and Chris Forsberg.

The 2007 movie ‘Bucket List’ starring Academy Award-winners Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman follows two terminally ill men on their around the world trip trying to complete their wish list (bucket list) of sorts before they pass away.  For one scene of the movie Freeman and Nicholson each drive a 1965 Shelby GT350 and a 1970 Dodge Challenger respectively around a track.

The 1965 Mustang was built as a Shelby GT-350 clone for the movie with Morgan Freeman piloting the vehicle. The car was one of three built by the Hollywood movie car builder, Ghostlight Industries. Back in 2008 the government held an auction at the former Unique Performance building in Dallas, Texas to try and collect as much money as possible to pay down the massive IRS tax bill, former employees and customers who were ripped off.  Among the auction items were fully built cars, engines, parts and half built vehicles.  One such piece from the Unique Performance auction was a 1968 Shelby ‘Eleanor’ Mustang body that has shown up on eBay. … Continue Reading

Video: Vaughn Gittin Jr. qualified 1st and took home 5th place at Formula Drift Palm Beach

In early June Vaughn Gittin Jr. took his drifting talents to Palm Beach International Raceway for Round 3 of Formula Drift and he took home 5th place overall.  After qualifying 1st Vaughn sliced and diced his way through the field until he met teammate Justin Pawlak in the Round of 8.  During the run Vaughn hit some bad luck as he broke a tie rod and was out of the competition.  Justin went on to the Top 4 only to lose to Chris Forsberg.  Check out the complete highlights of the Palm Beach Formula Drift below. … Continue Reading

Spy photographers hit the jackpot recently when they spied a 2015 Ford Mustang test mule roaming in the wild.  What looks like a 2013 Mustang test mule is actually a 2015 Mustang prototype with the much rumored Independent Rear Suspension (IRS).

The next generation Mustang will debut in early 2014 as a 2015 model with significant changes over the previous model including what many believe will be an independent rear suspension.  Ford intends to make the 2015 Mustang a global vehicle and to do that  they would almost certainly have to utilize an IRS setup to compete with European automakers. … Continue Reading

Video: Evolution Performance has First 2013 Shelby GT500 in the 9’s

Evolution Performance is always one step ahead of the crowd and this time is no different as they are claiming the first 2013 Shelby GT500 in the 9’s with the use of basic bolt-on’s.  Their GT500 ran a 9.95 quarter mile @ 142 mph with a stock motor and basic bolt-on’s.

What you might ask are the basic bolt-on’s, well we would imagine the usual suspects include cold air intake, full exhaust, custom tune, suspension mods and wheels/tires.  A stock 2013 GT500 can run the quarter mile in the mid 11’s so with those type of mods it seems likely.  Check out the video below. … Continue Reading
