Mach Stereo Upgrade??

I want to upgrade my Mach 460 with a stock Mach 1000. Does anyone know what all it would take to do this?? I have a line on the rear amps and subs, but do I need the head unit as well?? If I understand correctly, the Mach 1000 head unit offers more options than the Mach 460, so it can control the amps and subs. Also, would the wiring for the rear amps already be there, tucked up somewhere?? Any advise would be appreciated.

Please do not suggest aftermaket stuff, because I want the car to be factory Ford as much as possible.

When I test drove a few 2002 GT's I seem to remember there being a difference in the head units as well. You might try going to the parts department of your local Ford dealer and asking them about the wiring. I know on some vehicles that it is commomn practice to have the wiring in place for things like that.

Why? Most OEM ford stuff is junk. Im sure the Mach1000 stuff is nice, but for the same amount of $$$, you could have a system that sounds 10x better.

I guess no one read that I do NOT want aftermarket stereo equipment. I just want to know if the cars are prewired for the Mach 1000, not a debate on stereo equipment. Thanks anyways.

I can't guarantee it but I would bet that all the harnesses are the same. I base that on the fact that the hard top and vert use the same harness even though there are more switches and motors and stuff on the vert. Since the Mach 1k stereo is an option I would assume that the proper connections are already there. If they used different harnesses it would be a night mare during production since the harnesses are installed before any of the interior stuff. Coordinating the proper stereo with the right car chassis would be a real PITA.;) You should be able to verify this with a phone call to your friendly neighborhood car stereo sales/installation shop.

I have a 2002 Saleen #670 convert. with a Mach 1000. I'll check my tech books tonight and get back to you. Do you have a convertible or coupe?

I have a GT coupe. I now have the Mach 1000 head unit, amps and subs. With a cost of only $480, I thought it's a great value, especially since it's a $1,295 option. Once the weather gets warmer, I'll have to climb in the back and check to see if the hook ups are there for the amps. I just wanted to know if someone here would know for sure. The Ford dealership here isn't the nicest to me since I went somewhere else to get a Sonic Blue GT. It's the color I wanted and they couldn't get one for me.

Hello Sonic, from the wiring blue prints and connectors, I would say yes. I could scan them in pdf format if you would like to look at them. I'll need a email address. Another way to tell is if you have the second connector plug that goes into the stereo for the amps, and you should have another extra connector in the door for the speaker that goes by the side mirrors.

Rd, If you could email the wiring diagram, that would be great. I've put in the Mach 1000 head unit, which seems to change things in the Mach mode, but can't find the wires in the back for the amps. Why would there be an extra connector in the door panel?? Does the wiring diagram show the rear of the cars wiring?? Please email the diagrams to SonicGT02@yahoo.com. Sonic, give me a couple of days to convert the wiring diagrams. The extra connector in the doors are for the tweeter that goes up by the side mirrors. I'll see if I have a picture of that when I send you the wire diagrams.

Thanks for the effort to scan those diagrams for me!!! Does the diagrams show the wiring to the rear amps? The extra connector at the mirror still baffles me! The Mach 460 has the tweeters in the door already, so why would the Mach 1000 have a second or extra connector??
