i'm gonna buy a new h-pipe or x-pipe for my car. Any opinions on which one gets the most bang for the buck? And what is better, H or X? Its gotta fit my new 2 1/2 inch flowmaster cat back. Thanks for all the suggestions. I appreciate it.

An h pipe will give you more power (mainly torqe) low in the rpm range. It will also have a deeper exhaust tone.
The x pipe will give you more (hp) higher up in the rpm range. It will have a little bit higher pitched exhaust tone than the h pipe.
I'm pretty sure that all of the major companies h and x pipes will fit with your Flows as long as the pipe diameter is the same size. So basically its up to you.:D

Thanks. I think I'm gonna buy the MAC hts coated 2 1/2 H-pipe with no cats. I'm pretty sure that will fit my flowmasters.

What SPickett said! Mr. Technical. :D I heard a 4.6 GT with Borla XR-1 mufflers and a Dr. Gas X-pipe and I swear that there isn't a sound like it on earth. It sounded awesome. But like he said, the H-pipe will give you more of a deeper, mellow tone and the X-pipe is more of a raspy, metallic sound. Most people prefer the H-pipe sound. I would say listen to both before you decide that way you can make the best decision and also if possible ride in both so you can hear how they both sound inside the car (drone and resonance) since you'll be in it everyday.

I agree, the X-pipe sounds so much better than the H. IMO

And its just a better choice regardless of the sound.

i think that the little difference in power is minute...and the biggest thing you get with the two is sound...and thats the bottom line....X= raspy, indy car kind of sound...and the H=bark, loud meaty sound

Hi! This is David Borla from Borla exhaust. Just wanted to let you guys know that we are in the process of designing an X-Pipe which we be available shortly. Any input you can offer regarding what enthusisasts desire from an X-pipe will be of great assistance. Thanks.
By the way, what are the best X and H pipes currently available and what is it about them that you like and don't like?

Hey David,
I have had H-pipes all my life on previous stangs. The main thing I want to throw at you is clearance room as far as installation is concerned. I had a 97 Cobra with a MAC H-pipe. Install on it was a bit hard for me and I have done H-pipe installs many times.
The only problem on the install was on the h-pipe to header (passenger side). It was very hard to get to unless you jack up the tranny or take the engine mounts off. Hopefully you can give some more room so I can get my big hands in there.
You also have to think about who most of these people installing these pipes are. Most people don't have lifts or anything like that. They have the Jack and jack stands with very little clearance and room to menuever.
Another thing is that Borla products for Mustangs are a little expensive for Mustangers with small wallets. Most people who do mods are younger people with minimum wage jobs or college students. I would have had borla mufflers on all my Mustangs in the past if I had the money to fork over for them. Now I can afford to have them ,but am not sure if that is the way to go Because I can get the sound I want with less expensive products like MAC, Flowmaster or Magnaflow.
I am not here to bash borla. I think they have great products all around from what I hear and read.
Anyway that is my 2 cents.
Maybe you can send me an X-pipe and I can start my 2001 Cobra as a project car. I can do a nice write up and give you some advertising for it. Let me know.
Thanks for coming on our board.
