I think Ive nailed down my car purchase. Originally intending and desiring to get an 03 GT due to free financing and the fact that it would be a virgin, untouched car with a full warranty, I have had to shelve that plan due to unexpected bills. Stepping back, I thought Id get some other new car but anything cool is still unaffordable just like a GT. I considered a Focus SVT but honestly, they suck azz due to Mexican construction. Also, this will be the last car I buy, esp with financing, esp since it will only be the SECOND car Ive owned, so anything less than a rear drive V8 wont do. I then thought of various used cars I could get, but really, all the cool ones are too old and wore out. So, I narrowed down to a 00 Contour SVT or a used GT. But then I thought about a 99 Cobra. The Cobra would be old enough to be affordable, but new enough not to be wore out. I get more power than a GT, plus IRS. However, Ive concluded to NOT get a Cobra after all. Why? Because the IRS in 99,01s sucks. Id have to upgrade it to 03 specs anyway. Also, Ill be doing a gear change and adding an ARB Air Locker among many others things. Which brings me to the other deciding factor. My original intent, need and desire for a new car is because I need a car that can go anywhere, anytime, take trips, etc. Also, I need a car to drive while I finish the Torino and to chase parts with. However, being the hot rodder I am, I cant leave ANYTHING alone. If I get a Cobra or GT, not only am I going to mod it, but Im going to do a hard core buildup. So, since I have to replace the 99 IRS and Im going to do a build anyway, its pointless to buy one. Id just be spending money twice. The drawback to skipping a Cobra is that for the time Im building, Im slower with a GT. But, I save money with a GT and Im not spending money twice on parts Ill toss or otherwise replace. Looks like the Torino wont get finished anytime soon. Damn. I hate unfinished schit and I hate that its going to be relegated to second class status.

Thoughts?

Who cares if the IRS sucks or not? When the car hooks, and I'm sure it would often, it hauls ass.

I had the choice between a 2001 Bullitt (TB) and a Yellow 2001 Cobra Vert. One BIG REASON I didn't ge the vert was because it was a vert. But I've always wanted a Cobra... since I was a toddler before there was such a thing as a Mustang Cobra (Not the King Cobra of the 70s or the Shelby productions).

IRSs and other things can be bought and modified to suit your needs. What you need to do is drive the car and see which one gives you the best feel. They might look alike and sound alike but damnit, they're all totally different in style!

;)

My vote is on the Cobra, though a Bullitt is equally impressive and badass.

I care. I dont want to spend money twice. If Im going to have to mod or replace the 99 IRS with an 03 unit, I might as well just get a GT and not pay for it twice. The 99 IRS allows wheel hop or tire spin, there is no "hook up".

:whap:

Then your GT will fall short of a Cobra.

No, it wont. I will add an 03 IRS with a gear upgrade and ARB Air Locker. D&D Performance T56. 00 R spec 5.4 with Lightning/Cobra s/c or preferably Kenne Bell. Lightweight aluminum flywheel and Kevlar clutch. Plus various other parts. You must not have read my post.
