Speedometer bounce

I just changed out the speedometer gear in the tranny and now the speedo bounces. Any guesses why? Everything looks good.

Describe it better. But if its what I think you mean you need to remove the cable from both ends, take the square, metal cable part out and clean it and the cable sheath inside and then lube it with Cable Ease.

Give more details on when it bounces. Does it happen as it gets to 0 or does it do it at higher speeds? Has it ever happened before you did the gear and you might not have paid as close attention as you would after replacing a related part? Definitely check the cable. After 13 years it has probably lost its lubricity.
