04 Indy Pace Car ???

Anyone hear or read about this? Ford is suppose to stop building engines for CART and that would open the door to the IRL. Ford starts production of the new Mustang and... SHAZAM,04 INDY 500 PACE CAR.

interesting theory but isn't the new mustang being produced as a 2005 model year?

How exactly do you qualify to be an indy pace car?

Maybe the story I read listed the wrong year. It's guess an early 05 could be used, real early that is. My 01 Ranger was built in Sept. of 2000. The more I thought about it it would have to be an 05. It was just an idea that was in a story with a picture of the 05 coupe with Pace Car graphics on it. Nice idea though.:cool:

I read that somewhere too.

It would make sense because most every year the Mustang has been redesigned it has been the Pace Car.

In 1964 it was the Indy 500 Pace Car.

In 1979 it was the Indy 500 Pace Car. - New Fox-Body

In 1994 it was the Indy 500 Pace Car. - SN95 Body Style

I would put money on it being the pace car ,but not until 2005.

Yeah I don't think it'll be the 2004 pace car, but that sure would be sweet if it was.

Guess anything is possible even at the "General Motors Speedway ", I mean the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Around here it's a running joke that when guessing the pace car you through out everything except GM then narrow it down.

I just a little bias though.
