What year are you talking about. For some of the early mustangs it is quite easy to tell just by knowing what the VIN is. I have a book that has all the info on body style, engine size, etc...
In the VIN there are certain letters or numbers that represent different years, models, engine sizes, etc...
Just let me know a VIN and I can tell you all about it to a certain point.

EL Presidente,
What's the name of your book and where can I get one?

It is called 'standard catalog of MUSTANG 1964-2001' by Brad Bowling.
I picked it up a Barnes and Nobles.
Probably could get it at BAN.com
I believe that is BarnesandNobles website or something.

Thanks for the info. This is a great topic because of a story in one of the Mustang Magazines about the lack of fastbacks worth restoring. Someone got the bright idea to take the top of a rusted out fastback and mate it to the top of a coupe. I've seen a couple other replies about VIN's to make sure these people have real fastbacks or not.
I can't imagine what I'd do if my fastback that I just poured "X" amount of dollars into wasn't a true fastback. Just think of the problems down the road...
1.Rust where it's not suppose to be.
2.Getting out of jail after visiting the person I bought it from...:D
Thanks again
