- Ford is the only domestic automaker to gain market share in the first quarter

DEARBORN, Mich., April 1 ? To mark the company?s 100th anniversary, Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F), the only U.S. automaker to gain market share in the first quarter of 2003, has announced the return of the $5 day ? not as a wage but as car payment. Beginning April 2, customers will be able to lease a very well equipped Ford Mustang Coupe or Ranger Edge 4x2 pickup for $5 a day.

"Henry Ford helped create the American middle class in 1914 when he introduced the $5 day wage and the 40-hour workweek. It was a defining moment in history ? one we wanted to tap into for customers in our centennial year," said Steve Lyons, Ford Division president. "No one else has the heritage of Ford ? that?s why our centennial theme is, ?the road is ours.? The program shows we mean it."

The Mustang and Ranger Centennial lease is a 48-month lease that requires a 10 percent down payment. Other fees may apply. Mileage is limited to 12,000 miles annually or an excess mileage charge may apply.

I can't verify for sure if the Mach 1 and SVT models are included. But I know that they're not in the special APR range.
