You guys got it started...
Found an 01 Cobra at Penske Ford here in Indy. What, other than looking for signs of rough treatment, do I need to look at as far as options or problem areas?
Is there a letter in the VIN that designates that the car is a Cobra as with older ones? I know this shouldn't be a problem but who knows.
REASONABLE price range...
HP ratings for different years 98-01...
What year was skipped? 2000?
Any info before I get real serious would be appreciated.
Thanks.:D

The six and seven number in the VIN should be either a 46 or 47 I believe as a Convertible or Coupe respectively. I might be wrong but I am pretty sure.
A reasonable price range should be $18,000 with more than avg. miles and one that has low miles about $23K-$25K. I paid 23K for mine and it only had 400 miles on it. I know my case is very rare ,but if you take some time you can find the right one.
Horse Power for 98 is 305 HP
Horse Power for 01 is 320 HP
99,01 have independent rear suspension and 96-98 do not.
2000 was skipped because of problems with HP ratings in the 99. They fixed that problem by 2001. 99's were also fixed if taken back to dealership for work.
I think I got everything.

Thanks MRigney, I just started looking at newer models.
NADA and Kelley Blue Book site confired what your said on price.
I'm going to look at it in the next couple of days.
Rigney pretty much covered it all. I got my Zinc Yellow '01 in mint condition from a local Ford dealership for 21k. It only has 5k miles on it, but as rigney persisted with me, there are some low mile, near mint condition '01's out there, you just have to look and not settle for the first good deal you come across unless you are 100% comfortable with the extent of your search and have exhausted all other resources. Otherwise, I love my Cobra and am very glad I let my wife talk me into getting one instead of dumping money into my 96GT.
