I can't figure out why they call these cold air intakes. Obviously from the photo the air is taken directly from the engine area whereas the OEM is taken from the fender away from the engine. All that said are these kits worth the risk of water ingestion? Do they work?

I never understood why they called them cold air intakes either. I can tell you they do add horsepower all be it a small amount because more air is let into the engine. The OEM intake is restrictive and is hidden inside the fenderwell to keep air intake noise to a minimum.

I have had 5 mustangs with air intakes installed and never had any problems with water getting sucked up. The best air kit to buy is the one that goes in the fenderwell so you will be pulling in cooler air then the one shown above which draws the hot engine air.
