I have an 89 Mustang LX with the 5.0/5speed. Mostly stock as far as I know as the only things I have done were put in a blue hose kit and a cold air intake.

The rear defroster does not work.

The Heat/a/c/defroster is not working right. Air will blow out in either setting but it only comes out of the Defroster areas no matter what setting its on. I am not sure how cold it will get as i have not used the A/c yet (I bought the car 2 years ago,was told the a/c was updated and a new radiator and I have receipts for all the work) The heat will very rarely get hot. Any ideas on what could cause this? I don't see any leaking antifreeze in or out of the car.

thank you

I had the same problem on my 91 coupe I used to have.

I am pretty sure it has to do with the vacuum switch in the console. It has the three switches , one for power level, hot/cold and then the settings knob. Take that out and check the back of it and make sure everything is hooked up right. If it still does not work I would replace it.

I replaced it with a used one from a junkyard and it worked fine after that.

My heat dosn't get hot at all in my 90. Are you loosing any coolent? If so I might say have your heatercore looked at, they tend to go bad in our foxes.

If the heater core goes....time to sell a kidney to pay for the labor, unless you can do it yourself.

My heater core with labor was $360. It is a 6.5 hour job according to the book.

I remember paying $800-$900 when I had it done back in '96.
