View Full Version : automatic shift
Saulsse, I trully think it would take a good stick man to out do the shifting of the automatic in the 2005 GT in my opinion. And I'm sure there are some out there. Have a good day. Later

I have no doubt that some can do it. It is really a matter of the human touch when it comes to shifting.
It really depends on the guy or gals skill and being accustomed to their vehicles specific shift points.
The funny part is when you have a little rice burner Honda that comes up next to you and thinks that he has a fast vehicle off the line, and you can hear them shifting in part thanks to their add-on rice burner noise maker on the exhaust system.
You can then compensate when they hit fourth gear, and gently downshift by pressing the accelerator a tad bit more and they ponder why you are still pulling away. To see the expression on their faces is shall we say: Priceless.

When I got the call that the 05 Gt vert owner backed out at closing and I was next in line, the first thing I asked was..." is it a auto or a stick?? When he said auto, I wanted the car no mater what, now that I have had a chance to drive it and feel the power it offers as a auto, I can do nothing but smile. Go figure me being wrong about something...lol...everyday!
Are there any pros or cons either way? Can you start the GT in 1st on the auto and slap it through 2nd 3rd and into drive? Will this hurt the car?
Thanks in advance for your time

Traditionally, standard transmissions have a few more horsepower than the same car with an automatic. The difference is normally negligible, 2-4 horsepower.
Ultimately, I drive stick because I think it?s a lot more fun to drive. You can?t drop the clutch in an auto, you can?t downshift, and you can?t say you?re a real man unless you?re driving a standard.

When it comes to driving sitck or auto, for some they do want to drive the stick, but because they might have certain difficulties such as physical situations, they have to go with the auto.
I chose the auto over the stick for some reasons, which are:
1. Banged up knees. Left knee does not want to cooperate in shifting heavier clutch over long period of times.
2. City commute. Goes back to number 1.
3. Having automatic is cheaper than having knee replaced by surgery. See Number 1 again.
4. Yep, I am a guy though I am not spry and nor any beauty to look at, I am still a man. I have been there and done that and frankly my baldy head don't really care.
5. I still enjoy my Mustang regardless of my ability to shift a manual tranny or not and the auto makes it that much easier to concentrate on the wierdness of other drivers that call themselves drivers here in Atlanta.
I still smile when the annoying rice burner with the tin can for the muffler buzzer tries to make a pass, as there is nothing more sweeter than seeing the expresion of surprise on the other drivers face when he (and yes even she leadfooters) discover a new sound that they can never reproduce from their weeny power plant and that is the rumble of the 24 valve 4.6 Liter V-8.

Well said Stephen, I may only be 37 and not as seasoned as you but I too consider myself a man. Sometimes it takes a man to keep both hands on the wheel and just enjoy were it takes him.
Sorry Nshaner I disagree with ya on this one.

I was just poking fun. Even I like driving automatic sometimes; however, my main car will always be a standard.

You should never drink and drive.
Funny you should mention that though. We have a thing here in PA where on the turn pike, you can hold up a little radio device that automatically deducts your toll from a credit card. It's called easy pass and it's great because you don't have to stop and pay a person. It really keeps traffic moving.
Unfortuneatly, you have to hold this thing to your windshield for it to work correctly.
Trying to down shift to 10 mph with a hand on the wheel and the shifter and this easy pass thing is just freaking impossible.
But, real men have 3 arms.
