I'm just curious. I found out the only easy way to get a GT right now is to pre-order one. They don't give dealers mustangs to just sit on lots right now. I'm curious, have you guys been paying list price? Or inflated prices when you have a custom order? Thanks a bunch.
PS - I'm hoping to pay list price or under.

Aftering talking to about 20 dealerships, I found 1 that quoted me a price that was under MSRP by 500 dollars. The vast majority have asked for list price. Some have even had the gall to ask for 3k+ over MSRP.

Thats funny because I just bought a new GT this weekend and they gave me 500 bucks under the sticket too. Where did look for yours? I bought mine in Flemington, NJ.
I paid 500 under MSRP last week for one they had on the lot(they had 3). I heard that as recently as few weeks ago they were asking 2G over MSRP.

Some dealers are wising up and not trying to gouge while others are charging what they can.
It is a matter of principle really for a dealer. If he or she wants to overcharge then they can do so however, this type of business can come back to haunt them.
The word will get out to the surrounding community where they are and people will seek out another dealer to make a better deal. Then there is Ford Motor Company themselves. They are likely watching the behavior of dealerships as well and likely even reading the various message boards.
Ford will see the complaints and deal with the dealership down the road accordingly.
I have seen dealerships loose their franchiseship. One was a local Ford Dealer and the other was a Dodge Dealer here in the Atlanta as well as a Mitsubishi Dealer.
All three were closed and their assets taken away by the various manufactures, until new owners could step in and take over the operations.
Some will overcharge others will not. One side note is that out of all states, Georgia has the highest number of Mustang registrations and clubs with only California having more. We were seeing the price gouging at some local dealerships here in Georgia.

Yeah I agree. The place I went was a very Reputable place. Unfortunately they didn't have any on their lot. But they said that unlike some dealers they won't give my 'stang away when it comes in to the lot to the first person willing to pay them 2g's more than I agreed to pay. Then lie to me that the car hasn't come in yet. I guess this happens alot.

I got mine in Oct last year.
List was 29,120 I paid 28k. In colo typically v6's are under sticker Gt's are 3 to 5 k above. Avg time in Logmont is 2 days on the lot for a GT. denver they are all sold before they get em.
Boulder seems like 1 day.

The vehicle I found for 500 under MSRP was in Pittsburgh. I'm currently in the process now of playing other dealerships against each other.
I'm relativiely confident I can get a car for 1000 under MSRP.
In response to dealerships "taking customers off the market" (this is when they let you pay a down payment for a car when you order one, and if they think they can sell your car for more money, they sell it to someone else and say your car hasn't come in yet.)
Make sure that you make some sort of contract with your dealership. If they fail to deliver your car within a few weeks of the quoted time (if they say the car will be there in 10 weeks, give them 12 to deliver) then tell them you want your money back and you want to walk.
Don't let dealerships tell you that your car hasn't come in for 6 months.

I bought mine about 4 weeks ago. I actually managed to get it with the X plan. I ended up paying $25,774. It's a GT Premium Edition with all the bells and whistles minus the Shaker 1000. I guess it depends on how long you look for one and if you know how to twist arms. ;)

CONGRATS!!
What is The "X" Plan or package. I'm Curious.
GT's out here on the central coast (California) are ranging in price from 25,500-31,000. Some dealerships are being complete a#@holes and others are selling them for nothing under MSRP(so they say).
I questioned one salesman about a dealer sticker in the windshield that read " Dealer Improvements - $3,500". Everytime he pointed out an upgrade, I pointed to the factory sticker w/the upgrade already added to the price. When he finally gave up trying to lie to me he told me that it is called a "convienance bump, because it is here and you dont have to order one and wait.....(get this)......6 MONTHS!!!
Without skipping a beat I told him that he just "bumped" me right off of the lot and himself out of a sale. This guy should've done his homework, he would probably be better off selling Honda's. It seemed that everytime that I asked him a genuine question he had some really off base answer.
I've heard lots of people talking about how they bought their GT for under the MSRP. I would be interested in any coaching in how to do this since all of the dealers seem to be sticking to MSRP and well above.
Desperate in California!

Finding a deal on these vehicles is extremely hard.
Unlike every other time I've bought a car, my strategy this time was much different.
I went to kelly blue book (www.kbb.com) and asked for free price quotes from 25 dealerships in my area. 5 in pittsburgh, 5 in central pa, 5 in philly 5 in delaware and 5 in maryland/virginia.
Of those, about half responded to my email, but none gave me a free price quote off the bat. I had to email each one of them back listing exactly what options I wanted on the vehicle and I made sure to tell them that the dealership that offered me the lowest price would receive my business.
Of the 25 I contacted, 7 returned me quotes. 2 wanted 2000 or more over MSRP. 3 wanted MSRP and 1 wanted 500 under MSRP.
I called the rep at each of the 3 stores that offered me MSRP and asked the rep if he/she could do anything more for me on the price since I had an offer at 500 below MSRP.
The vast majority said no, but one rather large dealership said they were willing to beat any quoted price by 200 dollars.
Though I am still negociating, I have thus far been able to get a price of 700 dollars under MSRP.
I think a reasonable goal is 500 dollars under MSRP. The majority of the people on these forums seem to have gotten atleast that.
Anyhow be on the lookout for dealerships that advertise the fact that they will beat any advertised price, often times they advertise this in the first email you get after you request a price quote. Use this to your advantage!
Also, search Ford.com for dealer inventory. Look for the dealership in your area that has the most overall Mustangs.
From what I've heard, Ford is allocating Mustangs based on last years sales.
In short, if you find a dealership in your area, like I have, that has 30 Mustangs (they don't even have to be GTs) on their lot, chances are, that will translate into lower ordering time (6 to 8 weeks instead of 10 to 12) and better quotes, as they will have a higher supply.
Another good car buying tip, don't believe 90 percent of what the rep is telling you. If you have questions, come here and we'll try to give you a straight answer. I've found that for the most part, reps are scumbags willing to tell you whatever it takes to make them as much money as possible. Don't be afriad to lie to these people right back to get the best deal.
Last, make sure you deal with a reputable dealer. It has been known to happen where people order a mustang at a low price. When their car arrives at the dealership, if the dealership can sell the car for more than they are selling it to you for, they will get rid of it and tell you your car isn't in yet.
This is called getting a buyer off the market. Don't fall for this destable practice.
Make sure you have a SALES contract that states you have the option to get your deposit back and walk if the car doesn't come in a reasonable amount of time. (It shouldn't take longer than 14 weeks for ANY reason)
I capitalize sales contract, because often dealerships will make promises. Don't take their word for it, get it in writing.
I hope that helps. Good luck with your search.

Instead of searching around at every Ford Dealer you guys can find, the easiest way to get it quick(besides trying to find a GT on the lot that hasn't been sold), is to find the biggest Ford Dealer in your area or the state. I talked to the biggest one in NJ and they told me, that the bigger Ford dealers get more GTs. I'm guessing Ford alots GTs to each dealer based on size of the dealership and their ability to sell. The dealer I went to said they get up to about 8 GTs a month. So chances ae you'll get a custom ordered GT faster than a small dealer.

Thanks a million!
I'm still curious as to what the "X" Plan is.

The "X" Plan is kind of like the "A" plan that Ford employees get. I work for a very large corporation who has a deal with Ford. We get Ford products at 4% over dealer invoice which will typically drop the price substantially. However, with the 05 Stangs, most dealers aren't honoring the X plan price. I had to get pretty loud before this dealer would do it.
FYI, all of the dealers in the Houston area (which is where I'm at) are marking up the GTs 3-5k. Absolutely ridiculous!
