Is it normal for the transmission to have a clunking sound when coming out of gears on an 05 Mustang GT V8? It also does it if I come up slightly from the clutch.

I test drove two other 05 GT's at other dealers weeks ago and I don't remember hearing this sound. It just doesn't sound right. Now after driving it for two days, it doesn't feel right when shifting.

I told the salesman before I bought the car two days ago during a test drive about the noise and he said that it was normal. I asked to test drive another GT but they didn't have one. I also took it by the same dealer for another problem today and had them look at the transmission. The service manager heard the sound during a test drive with me and said his 05 mustang doesn't make that sound. Later he said it's probably the way I'm driving it. Yeah right!

I had a Mitshubishi Eclipse GST 5 speed manual so I do know how to drive a manual and never heard that sound from the transmission. I did see, from a distance, the repair person take down a dark gray or black tray section near the rear axle and was told that the Fuel Vapor Canister was loose and they insulated it and tightened it. It didn't help.

I plan to stop by another dealer this weekend and test drive another 05 GT to see if the trans makes the same noise. Any suggestions as to how to handle this problem if I don't hear the same noise coming from the car I plan to test drive?

Thanks for any input you can offer.

I've noticed the same thing. It sounds like loose linkage or something. It happens usually when I'm sloppy/lazy with the clutch. It's been a while since I've driven a manual sports car so I'm just trying to get used to the noises it makes. Not sure if it's normal or not. My first service is coming soon. We'll see what they say.

I wish I could help you out, problem is, it is impossible to diag noises through the web. It may be your driving style, or it may be a legit concern, hard to say.
My best advise is this, if your not happy w/ your selling dealer's service, try another. Ask to speak with one of the shops Master or Senior Master techs, don't be afraid to develop a working relationship w/ him. As long as your not a pain in the ass [whinning] you'll find they will take care of you, and your car.
There is a perception out there, that the dealers want to screw you and will not repair, or will damage your vehicle in some way when it is in for service, and while I'll agree there are some legit horror stories, we know your vehicle better than anyone.
Understand, there is a difference between a lube tech and someone who has dedicated himself to being a professional tech.
I have as much schooling as any medical doctor, and I have to update on a yearly basis. One of my tool boxes and it's tools are worth more than your new Mustang.
Hope this helps, best of luck!

yes im familiar with the noise... this usually becomes apparent when im lazy with the clutch

i told my dad to go for a spin and see if he can notice the noise as he is much more proficient at handling a manual. his response was this... i didnt know what you meant while driving it as i noticed no such noise, however, when i snapped the clutch too soon... there it was

i know somebody mentioned before theyre experienced manual drivers sooo that may not be the case in your situation... at any rate itll never hurt to get another person to drive it or get a dealers opinion on it.

best of luck

When shifting between gears, say from 2nd to 3rd, don't let the clutch drop once you've made your shift.

The correct way to shift is to let the clutch drop out to the friction point, pause for a moment and then let it the rest of the way out.

Also make sure not to hit the accelerator until the clutch is all the way out.

I heard the clunking sound a few times shortly after picking it up. I'm driving my car REAL hard so we'll see if it holds up.
