Hi, I'm seriously considering putting a deposit down on a Mustang GT. This will be my only car and since I live in New England, I am a bit concerned about how it will handle in the snow/ice.

I'm used to driving front wheel drive cars, and I do have a fair amount of experience driving in the snow/ice. Comfortable with manual stick.

I imagine, given the rear wheel drive nature of the Mustang and its high torque, snow tires are a good idea for the winter months.

If there are any Mustang GT owners in the colder states, I'd love to hear about your winter driving impressions.

Thanks a lot!

Duncan, when the time comes, you can go to tirerack.com and find winter wheel and tire packages for your car.
You do not say where in N.E you are from, but TownFair tire is pretty much everywhere, you could also see them for a set of winter tires and have them mounted to the stock wheels.
My recomendation is for a set of studables for the rear due to the ice we get, that ,and the factory traction control will get your Mustang anywhere you need to go.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, SNW. It looks like a set of winter tires is important if I want to own a Mustang (not to mention a good does of common sense when on the road)

Thank you for the info on where to get tires. I'm in Salem, MA, btw.

I think you can add a winter tyre option?

I am from south of boston so have similar concerns.

Though we do not get a lot of ice and snow here in Georgia, we did experience those events earlier.
My 2005 GT did very well in snow and ice conditions and in most cases better than SUV's because of its low end torgue played a factor in how it takes off in the wet stuff.

The traction control system is a must, use it all the time, for optimum performance.
The OEM Pirellie's gripped surprisingly well.

Key point, keep tires inflated to recommended inflation pressures.

In most cases you should be able to get around better than most
SUV's in the slippery stuff conditions.
