Do you think Saleen will design a car based upon this platform?

I love how they redesigned the front, it looks a lot like the prototype for the Mustang back in 2003. I'm willing to bet that it will hit 550 horsepower with no problems and not a lot of money, it's the same engine that's in the Ford GT. Is the price range for it still going to be between 30 and 40 thousand? If they can keep it in that range it will be a huge slap in the face to the new Corvette, the C6 ran a 12.7 quarter mile and the projected quarter for this new GT500 is mid to low 12's. I hope to pick one up when it comes out, I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that they offer it in silver or grey with black stripes.

The new Saleen Mustang S281 kind of dissapointed me, it's a tenth slower in the quarter mile than the regular Mustang GT, and almost double the price. It is a gorgeous car never the less.

Are you sure they have the most recent version. I thought the currently offered model is just the 2005 GT?

The 2007 Shelby was just released this past week. I guess I am asking if Saleen will have a version like the "Shelby" not "GT."

I know Saleen is planning on releasing the 281E and that will probably be the one.

Saleen kind of covered the whole Mustang playing field. The S281 has 325 horsepower, the S281S has 425 horsepower, and the S281E will have 500 horsepower. The S281E is supposed to be out later this year.

Are there any "ballpark" prices on the Shelby out yet?

I think the Shelby will be around 40K. my question is will the Saleen S281E haev more HP than the Shelby. If so i might go fo rthe salee. ALso is it says that the saleen comes with NOS so will that 500 HP come from that.

At this time I'm going to have to go with the Shelby because Saleen Mustangs are pretty expensive (I have nothing against them), and I've already been looking at loan options at my bank. I'm heading off to college next year so I have to stay realistic. Plus, most likely the Saleen S281E will have the same 4.6L that the Mustang GT has while the Shelby has the detuned 5.4L from the GT, so the Shelby has more potential. I've also heard that all of the detuning is from a larger supercharger pulley so for around $100 that Shelby could possibly be making around 550 horsepower.

While we're on this subject, what do you guys think of the new Roush Mustangs? I think it looks kick ass, especialy with the extra fog lights and that duck-tail spoiler.

I have come very close over the years to buying my first Mustang, but after seeing the GT500 in Hot Rod I have realised the time has come. I have a 1964 Olds Starfire convertable that I have had for years but it is going on the block so I have a very nice down payment. There are so many things to love about the GT500 but the one that grabs me hardest is the redesigned front end. There is a pic of a GT500 next to a GT and it just gives me goosebumps, that front is SWEEET!!! I'm not really a red car kind of guy, but I'm not sure what color combo I would want. Now for a really stupid question, the GT500 is coming out in the fall of '06 right?

Freaky1,
I wouldn't get my hopes up on an '07 Shelby unless you have more than a nice down payment. Might want to go on and begin looking into dealers and find out what kind of deposit they are wanting to get you a place in line. These will be a lot harder to come by than the '05 GT. Also, I doubt few, if any, buyers will get them anywhere near that $40 grand MSRP. Anyway, yes, they are supposed to be out next fall.

As far as the price I really don't expect they will be available near the 40g's that has been published. I remember when Dodge came out with the pick-up with the viper motor, sorry I can't remember the name, but it listed at close to 60, even though all the reports said low 40s. I have read about lots of people already asking about them, I plan to get on the ball very soon. I have some friends here in Denver that are car salesmen and I'm hoping with thier help I can get on the list.

Went out this morning and put down a deposit and I am on the list, about 26th place. There is only one dealership in Denver that handles SVT and they are about 5 min from my house. Now all Ford needs to do is build enough of them that they get to my spot in line, or some of the people ahead of me back out, fat chance.

I read somewhere that total production will be around 7,500 units. I wonder how many SVT dealers there are. Figure that out and you should have a ballpark figure on how many units each dealer could expect. I kind of doubt any one dealer will be seeing more than 10-15 max. Of course, that is purely a guess as I don't know how many dealers or how the allocation will be decided. Allocation issues caused many a prospective '05 GT buyer major problems. Some dealers could get an ordered car within 6-8 weeks where another it would take 6-8 months and some never materialized. All because of Ford's allocation system. You may want to do some research if you are serious about getting an '07 model. Just trying to help out. If I had known about these different issues when I began looking for my '05, I believe it would have been a much less stressful experience. I figured I would place my order and would have a place in line. I was very disappointed with Ford's system when I began seeing other buyers who were ordering months after I had and receiving their cars before mine was even scheduled to be built.

The salesman I talked with was cool and he told me of some of the problems they had with the GTs. His hope was that Ford will have learned from their mistakes, all the hasels were a pain in the butt for him too, I'm sure not like the pains for the buyers though. I'm praying that Ford has learned and that this will go smoothly, but who knows. I love the car and that is why I went and got on the list, I also know the chances of this all going down are long. But if it all dose come together I will be completely out of my mind and may even cry a bit. :p

Good luck, Freaky1. I hope you get it. It will be one helluva car.

I would really like to get one ,but I want to wait and see what the price is going to be. If it's around the $38-39K for the coupe I will probably get one.

Thank you 05SilverBullitt, I already made space in the garage for it, anyone think I'm getting ahead of myself?:D Iwas glad to see that there will be a convertable offered also, maybe that will help me. I'm stuck on the coupe, I like the look of the convert but the coupe really dose it for me. This car takes a place in my top ten of all time, and however slim I have a chance at owning one, that's what I told my wife and I think she understands the drive to own one fresh off the truck. I also found out that there are more like 7 SVT dealerships in Colo. I am waiting to hear back as to what the others are doing for deposits or waiting lists. I keep seeing all these Chevy guys around with their Z-06 vettes and I'm dying to put some of them in their place. I have an idea for personalised plates "GOES211" in reference to "Spinal Tap The Movie" when Nigel says all their amps go to 11 because when everone is on 10 they can go 1 louder. My wife thinks I'll need to explain that to everone, I don't know.

The last time we had a mustang with an engine bigger than 300 ci. was in 2000, and before that was over a decade ago. In a way the new Cobra / GT500 is celebrating the ocasion of 331 ci. mustang, after 6 years of 281's. You would think they would atleast make this Cobra / GT500 as loud as it deserves to be. To remind us all of how it was back in the days of the 5.0 for example. Two chamber and an H-pipe. Plain and simply a V8 331 ci. mustang with 450+ horsepower, and 450 pound feet of tourqe. Should sound abit louder than the way the Cobra / GT500 sounds. Other than that. The car is ingenious.

I am sure that they would love to make it loud but they are forced to keep it withing the laws of all the states as well as being emissions legal.

That's a good point. So it would end up drivers choice. After purchase, equiping the "iron horse with a drinking problem". With a Flowmaster 2 chamber, Mac off-road prochamber, BBK shorty headers. Or you can save money and simply tear out everything from the catbacks to the mufflers. Simple headers coming out the sides. lol

I have been dealing with Apple Ford in Columbia, Maryland. The salesman there said they expect to get 10 gt 500s. I am number 7 on the list. So far they have placed two Market adjustments on the price. Right now they are telling me 55-60k. I told em one more market adjustment and they can keep it. I think I'd be happier enjoying a nicely beefed up GT, instead of worrying about getting a mark on the Gt-500 and never wanting to modify it.

50-60k? holy moly, there go's my chance, didnt think it would be that much, maybe like 45k or so.

I was talking to a SVT dealer in my area and he told me they would go for around $50K.

Hey, just wanted to let you know that your SVT dealer did give you accurate information, as I am looking at my sticker and the total MSRP was $44865.00 however I was one of the lucky ones and only had to pay $5000- over that, plus I added a few options, but now most of the dealerships around here are only getting one if any and they are doing a "bid only" I heard of bids as high as $100,000.00. I am the only one with one in my state so far (so I have been told)! I waited six months for mine, but was actually on a list for a year, but it was well worth the wait. :D
